Dr. Nick's Story
From South Africa to Life University
Nick Fourie grew up in South Africa, where sport and physical competition were central to his life from an early age. As a child, he competed in national family fitness competitions — a foundation that instilled the kind of discipline and athletic drive that would define his path forward.
That drive earned him a full rugby scholarship to Life University in Marietta, Georgia, one of the world's leading chiropractic institutions and one of the top rugby programs in collegiate athletics.
He arrived at Life in 1998, earned his undergraduate degree, and graduated with his Doctor of Chiropractic in 2002. It was at Life that sport and healthcare converged for him — training as a rugby player while studying the body that made all of it possible.

Building His Clinical Foundation
After graduating, Dr. Nick made a deliberate decision. Rather than open a practice immediately, he spent two years at a high-volume chiropractic clinic in Atlanta — putting his hands on as many patients as possible, across as many conditions as possible, as quickly as he could. It was a purposeful choice to accelerate his clinical development before going out on his own.

From Atlanta, he opened his own practice in Pennsylvania and built it from the ground up over four years. But the winters had other plans. In 2009, he made the move to Austin, worked alongside another established practice for two years to learn the market, and in 2011 opened Back 'n Place Chiropractic on South Congress Avenue.
Building Back 'n Place in Austin
What started as one chiropractor with a clear philosophy has grown into one of Austin's most trusted chiropractic practices. More than 300 five-star reviews, built entirely on results, honest recommendations, and word of mouth — no gimmicks, no high-pressure sales tactics, no unnecessary visits.

Dr. Nick has never been interested in keeping patients dependent on treatment. His goal has always been straightforward: identify what is actually driving your pain, treat it effectively, give you the tools to stay better, and be honest with you about what chiropractic can and cannot do.
That approach has kept Austin patients coming back — and sending their families and coworkers — for over a decade.

An Athlete Who Gets It
From South Africa to Life University
Dr. Nick doesn't just treat athletes. He is one — and has been his entire life.
His sports background spans competitive collegiate rugby, triathlons, open water swimming, road cycling, and consistent gym training four days a week. Growing up in South Africa, he competed in national family fitness competitions.
Since moving to Austin, he has raced the CapTex Triathlon through the streets of downtown Austin multiple times. He has crossed the Atlantic to compete in the Cape Town Cycle Tour — one of the world's largest individually timed cycling events at 109 kilometers — on multiple occasions.

But the story that best captures who Dr. Nick is happened in March 2025. He and his wife Michele traveled to Cape Town to ride alongside his mother, Santie Fourie — who at 80 years old completed her ninth Cape Town Cycle Tour.
The three of them crossed the finish line together, hands raised. The moment was covered by the Lowvelder newspaper, which featured Santie's story under the headline "Santie's legs still pushing the pedals at the age of 80."

When Dr. Nick tells a patient he understands the frustration of being sidelined by pain — or the determination it takes to stay active as the years go by — he is speaking from experience. And from family.

How Dr. Nick Approaches Your Care
His athletic background isn't just a personal detail. It directly shapes how he treats patients. He knows what it feels like to push through training, absorb the punishment that contact sport delivers, and manage the cumulative wear and tear of a body that has been asked to perform for decades. That experience makes him a more practical, more realistic clinician than someone who has only read about it.

Every patient who walks into Back 'n Place gets the same foundational approach:
Listen first.
Dr. Nick will take the time to understand your history, what has worked, what hasn't, and what your actual goals are — whether that's getting through the workday without back pain or getting back to training.
Evaluate thoroughly.
A proper exam is the only way to identify what is actually causing your pain. Dr. Nick will not guess, and he will not recommend care before he understands your specific situation.
Be straight with you.
If chiropractic can help you, he will tell you how and what to expect. If it cannot — or if you need a different kind of provider — he will tell you that too and point you in the right direction.
Treat to a goal.
Every care plan at Back 'n Place is built around what you need — not a predetermined number of visits. Some patients need a few sessions. Others benefit from ongoing care to manage a chronic condition or support an active lifestyle. Dr. Nick will give you an honest recommendation either way.
Conditions Dr. Nick Commonly Treats
Back 'n Place Chiropractic helps patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:

If you are unsure whether chiropractic care is right for your specific condition, the best first step is a thorough evaluation. Dr. Nick will give you a direct, honest answer.

"Dr. Nick was excellent"
I came to Back n Place with some sciatica pain, and Dr. Nick was excellent. He took the time to explain what was going on, walked me through the mechanics of it all, and laid out multiple treatment options and gave me exercises and stretches to do at home.
He really knows his stuff and made me feel comfortable and informed throughout the process.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for someone who’s both knowledgeable and down-to-earth. - Armaan V.
